A good friend of me has two beautiful daughters (7 an 5 years old) and since she has a really good taste for clothing, they are both dressed very nicely. But ah! The eldest daughter’s cowl was to big for her! So here I come in.

I made her a flat, wide, knitted cowl in bright pink colors. I also made an extra crochet flower in contrasting colors and fasten it on a hair clip. This way you can put the flower where you desire. I will show you how to make this cowl since I made the pattern myself. You can find the pattern of the flower on the lovely blog of Attic24.

Abbrevation:
k = knit
p = purl
ss = Side stitch. Just level over the first stitch to your other needle, without knitting it. This way you will get a nice edge.
** = keep repeating the pattern between the stars

Starting with deep pink, cast on a multiple of 6 (or 3) stitches, until you reach the desired width. Add 2 more stitches to the total sum. I used a width of 27cm.
Row 1: ss, ** k3, p3, ** k1
Row 2 an all next even rows : ss, follow the stitches as they appear on the previous row. So, purl when you see a purl stitch, and knit a stitch when you see a knitted stitch in the previous row.
Row 3: ss, ** p1, k3, p2, ** k1
Row 5: ss, ** p2, k3, p1 ** k1
Row 7: ss, ** p3, k3, ** k1
Row 9: ss, ** k1, p3, k2 ** k1
Row 11: ss, ** k2, p3, k1 ** k1
Keep repeating row 1 till row 12 until you reach about 30cm.
Bright part: Take your second color, bright pink in my case, and knit 6 rows.
After that, knit 12 rows of 1 x 1 rib stitch (so, **k1, p1**), and knit again 6 rows. Measure the bright pink part.
Start again with the 12 first rows in the first color and keep repeating until you reach +/- 71cm, started measuring from the start of the bright color. If possible, try to finish the 12 row pattern.
Repeat the bright part.
Repeat the 12 row pattern until you reach a total length of +/- 142cm. Sew the ends together.
Note: if you get confused by the even and odd rows (as I was), add a colored piece of waste yarn at the end of one of your knitting needles.

Herhaal het patroon van de eerste 12 rijen tot je bij een totale lengte van ongeveer 142cm. Naai de uiteinden aan elkaar.
Tip: Als je (zoals ik) verward raakt met de even en oneven rijen kan je een restje wol aan één van je breinaalden knopen ter herkenning.
